HackAlem AI in Astana set a Guinness World Record
On September 23, HackAlem AI — one of the world's largest hackathons on artificial intelligence — took place at the EXPO International Exhibition Center in Astana. The event brought together developers, students, and young professionals from various countries, who created AI solutions for real business and government challenges in just a few hours.
The hackathon brought together around 2,500 participants from 21 countries and 129 universities. Over five hours, teams worked on AI-powered solutions across 10 areas, including energy, finance, education, logistics, telecommunications, creative industries and trade.
One of the highlights of HackAlem AI was the attempt to set a Guinness World Records title for the largest AI hackathon. Guinness World Records official adjudicator Glenn Pollard monitored the record attempt. As a result, 2,415 participants met the required criteria, and the world record was officially confirmed.
HackAlem AI was held as part of AI Month and the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence in Kazakhstan. The hackathon's technology partners included OpenAI and NVIDIA.
Astana Innovations also supported the event as one of its partners. The hackathon contributed to the development of Astana's technology ecosystem, bringing together talent, innovation and practical AI solutions in one space.
